This year's Halloween WW

This year my daughter dressed up in I guess 4 total outfits. Her dance classes dress up on  Halloween week. She did a bunny and a butterfly. The nun costume was kinda funny but we ended up returning it and she didn't wear it to the classes. We got a couple pics of her in it first though. Lol

I thought it was funny but the butterfly was better so we got that instead.

But here is more pictures. She wore the goddess costume to her dance class the night before Halloween. But since the actual night of Halloween was so cold, she would have froze going out in this. So she went on that night as the nerd. (she also wore a jacket with the nerd costume)

Also someone told me they have a "law" here - 13 yrs old and up can't go trick-or-treating? My daughter is 12 - and is kinda upset it will be her last year. I personally think it is a "dumb" law.

WW #128 "Halloween 2010"

Last year I had entered some kind of Halloween contest, and I received a coupon code for a Halloween costume. I was so excited when almost a year later the code was still good. So I really did it up for my daughter's costume this year.

She went as Dorothy from Wizard of Oz. One of the only problems though, was unfortunately it was only about 40 degrees out on Halloween and the poor kid was freezing! Oh well!

And before you ask -  yes she did have ruby slippers on, I just didn't get them in the shots.

Mellow Yellow Monday #21

I know every year Christmas starts earlier and earlier. But it kind of still bugs me to see it. I took this picture (with my cell phone), the week before Halloween. My son and I were in the store buying his costume. And the Halloween candy was being pushed aside for the Christmas candy, and decorations.

Oh well, it makes for a pretty picture. Yellow Carmel Popcorn and other Halloween candy, and red and green Christmas decorations.

WW #80 "Jason & The Witch"

Here are some pictures from Halloween. My daughter was a "Spider Witch" and my son was "Jason." They had a great time trick-or-treating, and of course got lots of candy. We also had great weather it was about 70 degrees out! Hope everyone had a Happy Halloween.

Aloha Friday #8

An Island Life hosts this meme. Aloha Friday is the day that we take it easy and look forward to the weekend. Therefore, I’ll ask a simple question for you to answer. Nothing that requires a lengthy response.

My question: Have you or your kids been to a Haunted House? Do you or your kids like Haunted Houses?

My answer: I used to like Haunted Houses when I was younger. My kids not so much. About 5 years ago, my sister talked me into taking them to one. My daughter didn't even make it past the entrance, and my son only made it about half way through it. That was our last attempt at a Haunted House.

Friday Photo Flashback #6

I was thinking the other day what my kids have been over the years for Halloween. Then I came across pictures from Halloween 2004.

My daughter was a Witch and my son was Harry Potter. This was one of the best costumes my son had. When we went trick-or-treating he got more complements on his costume then ever. Everyone was saying how much he looked like Harry Potter.

Halloween Adventures on Jack's Quest

Halloween is fast approaching. And I know from experience that it is never to early to start shopping for your costumes.

I actually already bought my daughters costume last Saturday. I had seen a cute hippie costume when she wasn't with me and I wanted her to go look at it to see if she would like it. But they only came in small so we couldn't get that. But she saw a really cute witch costume she liked. So we got that instead. She is easy to please. She always just likes the first costume she sees and we just get that.

My son on the other hand is never that easy. He hems and haws every year on what he wants to be. And we usually go at the last minute and he has to get whatever is left. That is his fault because I went to two different stores Saturday with him and he would not make a decision.

Do You Deserve A Trick Or A Treat?

Trick Or Treat Me is a great campaign going on now by Tetra Pak. They have a great blog that has tips on keeping kids healthy.

They are providing advice on how to give kids healthy choices during this Halloween time. And really any time of the year. I was reading some great tips on there for kids lunches. These would come in handy for my daughter when she brings lunch to school.

There is a fun app you can try called Trick Or Treat Me on Twitter. You can either send a trick or a treat to your friends on Twitter. And the nice thing about it is that for every trick or treat you send Tetra Pak will donate 10 cents to the World Wildlife Fund for every one sent. I tried this out and it was fun. I sent a couple of tricks to people on Twitter. Check it out for yourself!

Also on the blog is the "milk box" campaign which also benefits the World Wildlife Fund. And also helps support the environment. Candy, Candy, Candy!

Hope everyone who celebrates Halloween, had a good one. My kids did! They ran around for about an hour and 35 minutes collecting all the candy they could get!

This year they had so much fun! They are getting older, so I noticed there is a difference on how it went this year. Other years they would be scared of certain "scary houses." This year for the first time my daughter went to every house, scary or not! Other years they would get tired quicker and want to quit early. This year they ran around and seemed to not want to stop. Other years they would complain a lot. "I'm tired, I'm thirsty, etc." This year they didn't complain at all! We had a lot of fun!

So that means they got a lot of candy. I also mistakenly bought 3 bags of candy to pass out. But no one was here to pass it out. Because we were gone most of the time, I only got back in time to pass out candy to a few kids. So now we have lots of candy, candy, candy! Looks like I'm going to need some weight loss pills after this!

Tomorrow is Halloween! Happy Halloween Everyone! Here are 13 facts I found out about Halloween for you to enjoy. Hey It's also my 13th Thursday 13! A lot of thirteens!


1. Halloween's roots can be traced back to Celtic culture in Ireland.

2. Halloween was commonly referred to as "All Hollows" Eve. It originated from the pagan holiday honoring the dead.

3.The Roman Catholic Church created All Saints Day (also called Hallomas) on November 1st to honor Saints and on November 2 All Souls Day to honor and pray for the souls of the dead.

4. Halloween is second only to Christmas in spending. Consumers will spend over $2.5 Billion during Halloween.

5.The Irish carved Turnips and put coals or small candles inside. They were placed outside their homes on All Hallow's Eve to ward off evil spirits. They were also known to use potatoes and Rutabagas.

6.When Irish Immigrants came to America, they quickly discovered that Jack O'Lanterns were much easier to carve out and began using them. This truly neat tradition quickly spread to the general population in America and elsewhere.

7. The current world record for biggest pumpkin was set in 2007 by a 1,689-pound (766-kilogram) monster grown in Rhode Island.

8. In English, Halloween translates to "The Day of the Dead". It is an important Mexican holiday.

In honor of Halloween coming up here is 13 of my, my kids & my husband's favorite candy! We'll have bags of it in a couple of weeks. Even though I try not to eat much of it & try to limit the kids daily. This is the kinds everyone likes best.

Halloween is Coming!

Believe it or not Halloween is not that far away! Halloween is one of my kids favorite holidays. They love dressing up and going door to door trick-or-treating. Of course they love getting the candy too!

Also part of the fun, though is coming up with different costumes every year. My kids have some great ideas. And every year they like to come up with something different. Last year they decided to be vampires! They came up with it all on their own. Here's a picture of them from last Halloween:





This year they haven't decided what they want to be yet. But they better hurry up and decide so we can hit the halloween costume stores. That's the one thing that's hard every year about Halloween. I have found that if you don't shop early you might not get the costume you want. The halloween costume stores run out of costumes early, all the good ones get taken quick.

But I just found a website, called Halloween Adventure.com, that has tons of different costumes. They have a huge selection of childrens costumes. Everything from pirates, batman and disney. They also have a huge selection of adult ones too, in case I decide to dress up.

This website could be really handy in finding the right costume. And we won't have to worry about running around to the stores trying to find the right one. And we won't have to worry about someone else getting it first! I can't wait until Halloween!
