Hey guys. I got a free bar of Ivory from Influenster. There are some cool things besides the usual that you can do with Ivory.
Have you ever done the Ivory Soap experiment? Place a bar of Ivory soap on microwave safe bowl or plate. Heat for 2 min in microwave. And look what happens:
It is also fun to watch it do it's thing in the microwave. Little ones will especially get a kick out of it. Adult supervision recommended - and be careful removing from microwave as will be pretty hot for awhile.
You can then do different things with your puffed up Ivory. Check out my pinterest board for some ideas. I decided to make my own liquid hand soap out of it. I have a 2 liter supply of it now!

NO WAY! I have never heard of that, but I am going to have to try this!
ReplyDeleteyes - it's fun
DeleteThis looks like something my kids would love to try! I like the idea of turning it into liquid soap, I'll have to try this, thanks. Pinned!
ReplyDeletethanks - try it out
DeleteNow I have never seen this one, thanks for coming over to Oh My Heartsie Girl to share this idea, it is a pinnable to my mothers helper board.
ReplyDeletethanks - try it out sometime it's a fun experiment
DeleteOk, that looks like fun! Does it make the room smell heavily of soap?
ReplyDeleteSomewhat unrelated, but have you ever put marshmallow peeps in the microwave? The expand a lot!
yes - it does smell nice :)
DeleteI think I tried it with a regular marshmallow :)
Oddly enough, I have not done any sorts of experiments with Ivory soap. This looks like something young fries would love to watch. I'm curious after you melted the soap down, did it say liquidy? I wonder, if melting down other soaps would work well for liquid hand soap? Do you have any clues? Oh well...thanks for sharing your fun on WW!
ReplyDeleteHi Cathy, I grated some different soap before and melted it - the soap is called Castile soap, I found a recipe for making body wash out of it. for that one I didn't use "glycerin" it was kinda too watery because I didn't use that.
DeleteThen for the hand soap I bought some glycerin and if you let it sit awhile it becomes thicker and a good consistency for hand soap. Using Ivory soap.
I also read you can try making different things with Dove soap. Or for laundry detergent (which I might try next) you can also use Fels-Naptha soap.
You mostly want a soap that is somewhat pure of dyes, etc. which these ones are.
So cool! I had never heard about that but I am trying to convince my son that science is cool. This might just do it!
