Tips for Treating Adult Acne

Acne is an annoying skin condition that affects between 40 to 50 million people in the United States. Teenagers are most likely to develop acne, but adults often suffer from it as well. Some people still face acne problems well into their 50s. Fortunately, there are some steps that adults can take to minimize the problems it creates.

How Does Acne Occur?

Acne is caused by excessive sebum production, which clogs the pores. The sebum can eventually attract bacteria, which cause the skin to be inflamed.
Sebum production usually increases due to hormonal imbalances. The problem is most common in teenagers going through puberty, but can affect adults with hormonal balances as well. Adults suffering acne should try to stabilize their hormone levels to reduce the problems that acne creates.

Treating Acne as an Adult

Many of the treatments for acne aren’t appropriate for adults. They focus on addressing hormonal imbalances with teenagers, but adults often experience abnormal hormone levels for different reasons. You will need to find a treatment that properly regulates your hormones to fix the problem. Fortunately, there are still some great treatments that adults can try.
Sonic Cleansing
There are some great sonic cleansing tools on the market, which can remove dead skin cells that often clog the pores and lead to higher sebum levels. These treatments are relatively new, but appear to be surprisingly effective so far.
Products with Salicylic Acid
Salicylic acid has been shown to be an effective chemical for regulating sebum production. You will need to pay close attention to the levels of salicylic acid in the product to see how effective it will be. Levels of 1-2% are ideal for most people, but anyone with highly sensitive skin may want to consider something a little weaker.
Choose Other Products for Highly Sensitive Skin
Some people have highly sensitive skin, so using standard acne treatment products may not be counterproductive. They should look for products that don’t contain granules or anything else that may irritate their skin, because it will only stimulate sebum production and make the problem worse. Cetaphil and Aquanil are two products worth looking into.
Use a Chemical Cleansing
Many dermatologists and aestheticians offer skin care treatments that may be highly helpful as well. Try looking for a facial service that uses deep pore cleaning with chemical peels to treat acne. The provider will carefully diagnose your skin problems beforehand to determine the source of the problem and the most appropriate treatment.

Find a Solution for Adult Acne Today

You probably hoped that your acne problems would be over by the time you turned 20. Unfortunately, some people still suffer from acne well into adulthood. The good news is that there are a number of great treatments on the market to address it.

Tips for Choosing the Best Cosmetic Dentist

Americans are highly concerned about having a nice smile. According to the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry, 74% of Americans are worried that dental imperfections can cause problems in their career or personal life. Many patients visit cosmetic dentists to deal with these problems.
However, some cosmetic dentists offer higher quality services than others, so it is important to screen them carefully first. You want to work with an excellent cosmetic dentist such as Dr. Ban R. Barbat.

Factors to Look for Before Choosing a Cosmetic Dentist

The American Dental Association doesn’t provide any specific qualifications to become a cosmetic dentist beyond those required for standard licensure. Since any licensed dentist can be practice cosmetic dentistry, patients will need to conduct their own due diligence. There are a number of factors to take into consideration before hiring a cosmetic dentist.
Cosmetic Treatments Should be a Priority
Some dentists make cosmetic dentistry a core element of their practice, while others dabble in it occasionally. You will want to work with a dentist that focuses heavily on cosmetic procedures, since they are going to have more practice and offer a higher level of care.
Utilizes Advanced Technology
The AACD states that innovation is a key driver in enhancing the quality of cosmetic dental procedures and improving efficiency. In addition to new x-rays, they state that iPads and iPhones often include a number of apps that improve charting and analyzing X-rays. You will want to work with a cosmetic dentist that recognizes the importance of technology and invest in it accordingly. They will provide higher quality services than those dentists that refuse to adapt to new technology.
Shows Promising Examples of Work
You will want to also work with a dentist that provides examples of work they have provided for prior patients. Looking at before and after pictures will give you a sense of the quality of care that they provide.
Communicates Clearly
Communication skills are extremely important to consider when working with any professional and cosmetic dentists are no exception. You will want to make sure that the dentist clearly understands your problems so they can provide the necessary treatment. They will also need to be able to clearly convey the treatment options worth pursuing.
Convenience
You also need to work with a dentist that does everything possible to improve convenience for patients. They should be flexible with scheduling and offer a wide range of payment options to make life easier.

Choose Your Dentist Carefully

Some cosmetic dentists offer a higher level of care than others. You will want to work with a professional that has plenty of experience and a solid track record for delivering the necessary treatments.

Nature Walk

My husband and I found another place that was really nice for a nature walk. We have been to a different section of the river - but we found another one we hadn't been to before.

Forget the Apples, Do Green Tea and Exercise Keep the Doctor Away?

We all know the old saying: "An apple a day keeps the doctor away." That trusty old saying is all well and good if you have an apple tree full of apples, but what if you don't?

Fortunately, there is another time-honored, age-old recipe for health: a good cuppa tea and old-fashioned exercise. Nothing else comes close to that combination for keeping your body healthy and strong. Except, of course, possibly apples.

A Cupful of Prevention is Worth a Prescription Cure
Who likes taking medicine? Listening to prescription advertisements that rattle off side effects as if they were fine print features of a car commercial always makes me feel a little unwell. Avoiding side effects caused by prescriptions is a great reason to stay healthy. By going to the source of where medicine comes from - plants - you can naturally boost your immune system so that it can fight off sickness without ever needing meds.
How can you do this easily? By making green tea.
Brewed from the leaves of the Camellia sinensis plant, green tea is a superfood that offers health benefits galore. While it does provide caffeine, it also contributes a stabilizing factor that can help you get more done than you can by drinking coffee, and it will control those jitters from missing your morning cup o' Joe. What else can green tea do for you? Here are just a few:

  • It boosts your metabolism, making it easier for your food to convert to energy instead of fat. This makes you lose weight and enhances your physical stamina
  • It can enhance your brain function and prevent Alzheimer's in your golden years
  • It can kill bacteria, preventing tooth decay and mouth problems
  • It can help reduce blood sugar levels, possibly even reducing your chances of diabetes

To put it simply, green tea just makes you healthier all round. Simply heat your water to boiling, then remove it from heat and wait a full minute to let the temperature drop to about 160°. Any hotter, and you could destroy some of the amazing properties. Then add your tea and let it steep for as long as you like, but at least five minutes. The longer you steep it, the more potent it will be. To sweeten it, add raw honey for maximum health benefits. Maple syrup is also a delicious, healthy sweetener. If you prefer iced tea, you can skip heating the water and simply steep the tea in the refrigerator overnight. Enjoy it in the morning for an extra-healthy shot of green goodness.

Exercise: If You Do It, Health Can Come

Regardless of how unhealthy you may feel, a little exercise is all it takes to get the ball rolling in the right direction. Nobody said you have to go buy the fancy workout kit, although you may be ready for it in a few months as you discover how much fun exercise has become!

Even though apples are great, they really are a bit overrated. By using a little green tea and a little exercise, you can give thanks as you watch your health improve until you can say goodbye to the doctor. You might even save some money on apples.

I have another review and giveaway for you from Trusted Health Products.

This time it is for the product called Runners Choice.

Here is product info for you:

Winning Tactics for Running a Marathon
The Runner’s Choice is for the discomfort of sore feet. It is designed for people that are on their feet all day or for people that run 3 miles or more at a time. After you try this product the first time, you will be back for more.
        The Power to Excel
The Runner’s Choice is scientifically formulated with 100% natural botanical oils of almond, eucalyptus, eucalytol, wintergreen, peppermint, and spearmint. Unlike many commercial creams and lotions, the botanical oils in The Runner’s Choice are very easily received through the pores in the skin, with simple topical application, and no rubbing.
        DIRECTIONS
Apply to feet immediately before and after running, jogging, or when you will be on your feet for long periods of time. Coat the bottom of your feet, between the toes and the top and 2 inches above the ankle for best results. Do not rub in (rubbing is not required for effectiveness). Wash hands after use. Avoid contact with eyes and other sensitive tissue. Keep out of reach of children. Do not use on open wounds.

Unlike many commercial creams and lotions, which require rubbing in, the botanical oils in The Runner’s Choice are most effective with gentle topical application, and no rubbing. The body recognizes the natural properties of these botanicals, and receives them very well as they gently soak through the pore openings in the outer layer (epidermis) of the skin.

Tips to Slow the Progression of Alzheimer’s Disease

Alzheimer’s is a debilitating neurological disease that affects over 5 million people in the United States. It can be very difficult for people to watch their friends and family members slowly succumb to the disease. Fortunately, there are ways to slow the progression of Alzheimer’s.

Delaying the Development of Alzheimer’s disease

In order to delay the progression of Alzheimer’s, you need to understand the factors that drive it. Here are some steps that you can take to slow it.
Follow Diet to Increase Tau Protein Production
Following a proper diet is one of the best ways to slow the progression of Alzheimer’s or any other neurological disease. Here are some important tips to consider.
Tau is an important protein for keeping brain cells healthy. Earlier this year, researchers from the University of Texas found that increasing tau levels can reduce the risks of developing Alzheimer’s.  You can build your tau protein levels by activating Apolipoprotein E receptors. The best way to do so is by eating foods that are appropriate for your body type. You will need to find out if you are a slow, fast or balanced oxidizer and follow the proper diet.
You should also try to increase your consumption of Vitamin E. A recent study from the National Institute on Aging found that consuming 2,000 IU/day of Vitamin E decreases the likelihood of developing Alzheimer’s disease.
        Medication from Neurologists
You will want to speak with a neurologist from Northwest NeuroSpecialists if you are in the early stages of Alzheimer’s disease. There are a number of different medications on the market to treat the disease. Some are tailored to dealing with Alzheimer’s in the early stages, while others are better for treating more advanced forms. Your neurologist can figure out which one is best for you.
The FDA has approved two different types of medications:  Cholinesterase inhibitors and Memantine. The stages are not precisely defined, so doctors often take FDA recommendations with a grain of salt. You will need to trust your doctor to prescribe the best medication.
        Keep Active
Research has shown that people that are both physically and mentally active tend to develop Alzheimer’s more slowly. Try to challenge yourself as much as possible. Even something as simple as calculating tips by hand instead of using your iPhone calculator while eating out can help stimulate your brain and slow the progression of Alzheimer’s.

        Fight Alzheimer’s Disease

Unfortunately, there are no cures for Alzheimer’s disease. However, there are ways that you can slow its progression to maintain a higher quality of life for a longer period of time. Take these tips into consideration to reduce the chances of developing it.

Treatments for People Suffering from Acoustic Trauma

People that are exposed to high decibel noises are at a high risk of suffering from acoustic trauma, which can lead to hearing loss. The chance of risk is greatest with people that are regularly exposed to sounds of 85 decibels or higher. People suffering from acoustic trauma may need to purchase a hearing aid. Fortunately, there are a number of great devices on the market that significantly improve hearing without causing additional problems.

Do You Suffer from Acoustic Trauma?

You should find out if you suffer from acoustic trauma after experiencing a particularly loud noise. Here are some signs that you may need treatment:
        • You consider undergo a hearing test after being exposed to a very loud noise, such as an explosion.
        • You heart continuous ringing in your ear.
        • You have to regularly ask people to repeat
The damage caused by acoustic trauma tends to worsen over time. You will initially have trouble hearing higher frequency sounds. However, you will eventually have difficulty with lower frequency sounds as the damage progresses.
Acoustic trauma is highly common for employees in many industries. You may need to get a hearing test conducted regularly if you work around loud equipment, because your hearing may gradually begin to atrophy. You will want to make sure that you identify these problems and address them before it is too late. Your doctor can test your hearing to see if it within normal limits. You may need to see the doctor multiple times to see if the problem is gradually getting worse.

        Treatments to Consider

The damage caused by acoustic trauma is often irreversible. However, you may be able to keep it from worsening and use aids to improve hearing. Here are some tips from the National Institute of Health to keep in mind:
        • You may need to shield your ears from further loud sounds. Consider wearing sound filters while working around loud noises.
        • You may need to undergo eardrum surgery to repair the damage.
        • Purchasing a hearing aid can help you accommodate some of the problems.

Acoustic trauma can be scary, but you can take a lot of steps to prevent it from worsening. You should seek treatment right away if you have been exposed to sounds exceeding 90 decibels, especially over extended periods of time. It may be too late to save your hearing, but you may be able to take some measures to keep the problem from worsening.

        Belated Halloween Photos of sorts

Halloween week my daughter's dance school let everyone come in costumes. She dressed up for her Jazz/Hip Hop classes.

She is the "bumble bee" - we got that onsie on ebay over the summer and she wears it around the house anyway and for pj's lol.

What I notice from these is my daughter is like one of the youngest in her class - but pretty much the tallest. The ladybug is actually the dance teacher!

Since my kids officially aren't trick or treating anymore - these are the only "halloween" pics I have this year - lol.

Tips to Make the Most of Your Massage

Americans are becoming more focused on holistic treatment, which is fueling demand for massage therapy. According to the American Massage Therapy Association, over 50 million Americans received a massage in July 2013. Research on the health benefits of massage therapy appears to be driving demand. Consumers that are interested in massage therapy should learn what steps to take to make the most of the treatment.

        Benefiting from Massage Therapy

Massage therapy can be highly beneficial, but there are a number of things that you need to do to make the most of it. Here are some things that you can do to make the most of massage therapy.
        Stay Receptive
You will get the most of a massage if you are able to stay as relaxed and receptive as possible. It can be a little awkward allowing a stranger to manipulate your body, but they will be able to help remove tension and release endorphins more easily if you go with the flow.
        Communicate with Your Massage Therapist
You need to communicate closely with your masseuse to get the most from your treatment. Here are some things that you will want to communicate with them:
        • Any health problems that could create problems with treatment (these should be addressed during the intake evaluation)
        • The problem areas that you want to focus on
        • Any discomfort that you experience during treatment
Massage therapists need to understand your goals and physical sensations to ensure they offer the highest quality of treatment. Open communication is necessary to reach these goals.
        Avoid Wearing Thick Clothing
Lighter clothing makes it easier for your masseuse to stimulate your muscles. Try to wear a thin shirt and sweatpants for a Swedish massage. If you are receiving a deeper tissue massage, then you should consider taking off more clothing. Many massage therapists recommend their patients be fully or mostly nude.
Do Not Eat a Large Meal Immediately Before
It is a good idea to schedule your massage at least a couple of hours after you plan on eating. You will be more relaxed if your body has had time to digest. Eating also spikes your glucose levels, which can make it more difficult to relax.
Let the Masseuse Do the Work
Many people with Type A personalities want to be proactive about their own treatment. You will need to resist the urge and allow the masseuse to do the work for you. Do not lift your head or limbs to make their job easier. They will provide a great massage, so just relax.

        Art Museum

Recently I went to the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts. My son is taking an Art History Class and he is going to have to write a term paper on one of the pieces of art there.

This is a really nice art museum and easy to get to. And only costs $5.00 for parking and you get free admission! I can't believe you don't have to pay to get in. *only special exhibits cost extra.

Here's some pics I took of our recent visit:

        Toe Juice #Review

I received Toe Juice to review. I got 4 bottles  as pictured below:

        +STAY AT HOME MOM

Here is some info about the company and product:  synopsis taken from the Toe Juice website:

What makes Toe Juice® so effective is the liquid application and the DermaVine®. To help understand the effectiveness of the liquid application, think about a time you have been really thirsty… thirsty enough to feel dehydrated and needing refreshment right now! Did you run to the refrigerator and pull out the mayonnaise and drink it? Probably not! We need liquids for the fastest hydration and refreshment.

Because Toe Juice® is a liquid, our customers are amazed by how quickly Toe Juice absorbs into the skin, how refreshing it feels as it quickly hydrates, and how quickly their skin issues are resolved.

DermaVine® is the proprietary blend of plant based extracts that makes Toe Juice® effective.  Things like lemon peel oil, willow bark extract, and cinnamonum extract.
