WW #75 "Sprained Knee"

My daughter hurt her knee last week. It wasn't getting better after a few days, so I took her to the doctors. They did some x-rays. They said it was just a sprain. But she is supposed to use these crutches at least until the end of this week.

I hope it is better by Friday. She has been a real trooper through all this.

Halloween Adventures on Jack's Quest

Halloween is fast approaching. And I know from experience that it is never to early to start shopping for your costumes.

I actually already bought my daughters costume last Saturday. I had seen a cute hippie costume when she wasn't with me and I wanted her to go look at it to see if she would like it. But they only came in small so we couldn't get that. But she saw a really cute witch costume she liked. So we got that instead. She is easy to please. She always just likes the first costume she sees and we just get that.

My son on the other hand is never that easy. He hems and haws every year on what he wants to be. And we usually go at the last minute and he has to get whatever is left. That is his fault because I went to two different stores Saturday with him and he would not make a decision.

Oh well, it usually always works out. Halloween is always an adventure! Speaking of adventure, there is a website called Jack's Quest. There you can share your Halloween adventures either in a video, stories or pictures. Then others will vote on your submission. Everyone who enters will automatically be rewarded with a shopping discount and there will also be over 100 prizes given away for the top ranked entries. Read the following Press Release for more information:

PRESS RELEASE:

Ruby Tuesday #7

The magic # is 1! If either the Red Sox win tonight, or the Rangers lose, the Red Sox will win the wild card. This is really down to the wire. I was kind of mad last night, when they called the game in the 7th inning due to the rain. We were losing, but had two men on with no outs. We could have come back. Oh well, we better win tonight.

Here is a Budweiser bottle, my husband got the other day. It's an aluminum can - with Red Sox on it. I love it! Go Sox!

Mellow Yellow Monday #18

Here are a few shots of some sunflowers. In the field where we went apple picking a few weeks ago, there were lots of sunflowers growing. I would love to have this many growing in my yard too.

I'm starting to get an obsession with sunflowers. I just love them, and I'm defiantly going to grow more next year. I even have my sister wanting to grow some in her yard.

Friday Photo Flashback #2

Check out More Than Words to play along too.

This is one of my favorite pictures of my two sisters and I. I always loved this photo and had copies made for them. I had it framed at one point and on display, but just recently came across it again in a closet.

That is my sister Debbie, Sheryl and me (from left to right.) My husband took this (I don't think we were married yet though when taken.) We all went on a whale watch and he took this of us on the boat. This was taken in 1994.

Don't Try This At Home - truTV

The above video is from truTV. Watch the truTV video and see if you don't get a reaction from it.

You should really watch truTV with caution. That's because the stories are real and the effect is actual. When I watched the above clip, my first reaction was "what the heck was that guy thinking?" Then I thought "don't try this at home."

I really love the show The Smoking Gun Presents on truTV. I love it because when I watch it I always crack up at what people do. I can not believe how crazy some people are and what crazy things they will do.

My reaction is always: "how dumb are these people?" I also love the celebrity hosts on the show. They give critiques on the videos. My son likes this show too, and we always laugh at the silly things people do on this show. He also really likes what the celebrities have to say about it.

This particular video is a riot. People decide to luge down a huge concrete hill! Then the guy crashes going super fast at the end. He ends up taken away on a stretcher. I love when one of the celebrities says "this is a sport I hope doesn't catch on." Too funny!

Check out truTV for yourself, and see if it doesn't cause you to react somehow!

Fairyland

Above is a shot of my garden on Fairyland on Facebook. I really like this app. I started playing this about 4 months ago, but have recently become more and more addicted to it.

You plant different seeds that grow into different plants and flowers. And you have to water them. This costs gold, which you can win in different ways. You can also win diamonds which can be used to buy different items too. And you move up in levels with different things that you do.

You can visit other Fairyland gardens too, and water their plants. A fun thing too is there is different wildlife. You and others can leave out different food to attract the wildlife. And if you water a plant you might happen to spot one, which can give you more diamonds. A fun thing that was recently added is growing mushrooms. The mushrooms attract different kinds of dragons. Right now everyone is on the hunt for dragons!

This is a really fun app. Check it out for yourself if you want!

Do You Deserve A Trick Or A Treat?

Trick Or Treat Me is a great campaign going on now by Tetra Pak. They have a great blog that has tips on keeping kids healthy.

They are providing advice on how to give kids healthy choices during this Halloween time. And really any time of the year. I was reading some great tips on there for kids lunches. These would come in handy for my daughter when she brings lunch to school.

There is a fun app you can try called Trick Or Treat Me on Twitter. You can either send a trick or a treat to your friends on Twitter. And the nice thing about it is that for every trick or treat you send Tetra Pak will donate 10 cents to the World Wildlife Fund for every one sent. I tried this out and it was fun. I sent a couple of tricks to people on Twitter. Check it out for yourself!

Also on the blog is the "milk box" campaign which also benefits the World Wildlife Fund. And also helps support the environment. Because milk in shelf stable Tetra Pak cartons make a great choice for Halloween treats. And they are made by Organic Valley and Hershey's you know you can trust them. And they stay fresh for months before use with no refrigeration.

So check out the Trick or Treat Me blog, it's really fun. And you will get great tips and have fun on Twitter and many more fun things await you there.

WW #74 "09/09/09"

Back on 09/09/09, my local news was making a big deal about that date. They wanted everyone to take pictures of anything they wanted on that day. They were calling it a "Day in the life." Then everyone could upload their pictures on the new's website. As long as they were taken on 09/09/09.

They were showing some of the pictures throughout the week on the news, and on a half hour special. I don't think my pictures made it on any of the shows. (everyone's makes it on the website though) But I thought it was a cool idea.

I just took some shots of the kids playing basketball and one of my daughter riding her scooter in a tie & slippers - lol. Anyway here's my pictures:

Ruby Tuesday #6

These bushes actually belong to someone at the end of my street. I have always loved these. An older couple who used to live there, were very meticulous in taking care of them and cutting them back before winter.

Someone else lives there now and doesn't seem to take as good care of them, but they still seem to be doing ok. I have no idea once again what kind of bush or flower these are. But what I really find cool about them is that in the spring and summer they are white. Then in the fall they turn a ruby red and pinkish color.

Stem Cell Breakthrough

I was just reading the C'elle Blog and I read a lot of useful information. The blog discusses the fact that in 2007 C'elle announced it's discovery of a novel stem cell technology. In November 2007 they launched the worlds first ever commercial service for stem cell collection. C'elle allows women to collect and cryopreserve their own menstrual stem cells.

These stem cells can be used for future therapeutic use by the donor or possibly a first degree relative. Menstrual fluid potentially contains an ideal source of viable stem cells. These stem cells can provide a source for a large range of regenerative stem cell therapies.

Menstrual flow contains millions of unique stem cells. These stem cells have properties similar to bone marrow and embryonic stem cells. Menstrual flow stem cells can multiply rapidly and can possibly differentiate into every other stem cell in the body. This is an amazing breakthrough in stem cell science. C'elle has quite possibly discovered the Holy Grail of stem cells.

This is great news for women who would like to collect these potentially life saving stem cells that are found in their menstrual cycle. The collection of cells is an easy process. This would be great for anyone who would like to preserve the future health of either themselves, or their loved ones.

Camera Critteres - Farm Animals

The farm I keep talking about where we get corn and go apple picking, also has some animals. They have a little barn and have a few animals. They have rabbits, cows, etc. I got a few shots of some of them.

The kids like to go up to the barn an look at them whenever we go there. The weird thing is I don't think to many people even know they are there, because they are kind of way up on a hill.

Thursday Thrirteen #29

It seems as if that more and more children are developing peanut allergies. I don't know many facts on the problem or why this is occurring. But all I know is that it seems as if this is becoming more and more of a phenomenon.

When my son started school 8 years ago, there was no talk at his school about peanut allergies. Now that my daughter is at the same school there seems as if a lot of kids have it. They require a special table at lunch time and anyone sitting with them has to have peanut free meals. Snack time is also a concern and they want children to bring in peanut free snacks, so that their friends with allergies are not at risk.

Here is some suggestions my daughter's school passed out for Peanut Free Snacks:

1. Teddy Grahams, all varieties
2. Pepperidge Farms goldfish, all varieties
3. Honey Maid Graham Crackers
4. Kellogg's Rice Krispie Treats
5. Nabisco Wheat Thins
6. Cheese sticks
7. Smartfood popcorn
8. Cheez-its
9. Ritz crackers
10. Bugles
11. Doritos
12. Fruit Roll-ups
13. Pop-tarts

WW #73 "Apple Picking 2009"

We went apple picking on Sunday. The kids, my husband, my sister and I went and picked like 40 pounds of apples! Now we have plenty of apples to make some pies.

It was a nice sunny day, but felt like fall. One thing I was thinking is the week before we were at the beach, the next week we are apple picking. Weird, but that's life.

Random Tuesday Thoughts #7

randomtuesday

I'm past due for an annual check up. But the last Dr. I went to has since left that practice to go to another one. I didn't really like her anyway. But now I have to go through the whole process of finding another one. (or I may check this practice to see if I can just go there but see a different Dr.) But I really only like to see female doctors, so unless there is another female there, I don't want to go back there.

I'm also due for a mammogram but I don't have a Dr. So I'm not sure if I can just get it done anyway, or if I should get a Dr. first. What a pain!

There is a possibility of me getting a job where my husband works. There may be a job opening up sometime in the near future where he works and I may be able to get the job. He gave them my resume and as soon as they want to fill this position, I may be called in for an interview.

I'm somewhat nervous about the whole thing. Since I only worked a couple of years ago at some of the schools around here, but other then that haven't had a real job since before my son was born - 13 yrs ago!

The hours seem kind of a pain, 4-7:30 pm. But also good in a way, because my husband will be home to watch the kids, while I go to work. And the extra money will also really help. We'll see what happens.

Thanks for stopping by and hope you all have a great "random" day! And if you want to play or check out other random posts, click the button above to go to The Un Mom's blog.

Mellow Yellow Monday #17

My favorite Summer treat:

Although we didn't have it as much as I would have liked this Summer. I do love it though. Especially from my favorite farm, that I have been going to ever since I was a little girl with my Grandmother.
